Maytree is a sanctuary for the suicidal; a place where, during a brief stay, a person will find the support that can alleviate despair and isolation. What does Maytree offer?
- Own room, respect for privacy, “space”, and complete confidentiality
- A maximum length of stay of four nights
- Use of the facilities of the house: a sitting room and a kitchen where snacks/light meals can be prepared or may be offered by volunteers
- a small, quiet garden.
- There are plenty of local shops
- A number of “house rules” will apply, for example no alcohol or drugs on the premises, acceptance of the authority of the Director and, of course, reciprocating the respect and personal safety of all others at Maytree.
- The chance to talk to a volunteer, as much or as little as you like, and to explore the thoughts and feelings – and circumstances – that lie behind your despair. Feeling understood is the first step
- Specialist advice (legal, financial, housing, medical) should you need it from any of a panel of advisers who offer their services to Maytree – all totally confidential.
- Also, help in arranging support of whatever kind beyond your stay at Maytree N.B. There is no charge for staying at Maytree.
