The Charlie Waller Institute of Evidence Based Psychological Treatment (EBPT) is the product of a collaboration between the University of Reading, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. The aim of the institute is to engage in high quality research and dissemination of EBPT. It was launched in January 2008 by Lord Layard and Professor David M. Clark.
It aims to:
- Train clinicians exclusively in psychological treatments that have been shown to work in research trials, typically those recommended by NICE.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the training on clinical knowledge and skills.
- Undertake research to add to the evidence-base for effective psychological therapies.
The training takes the form of postgraduate part-time year long courses (diploma and certificates) and one/two day clinical workshops and seminars. These are delivered by world renowned expert clinicians who have been involved in developing and evaluating the treatments in research trials.
