More about the 2.6 Challenge

Many fundraising events in the UK have been postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving charities struggling to maintain their services due to the loss of vital funding. The 2.6 Challenge is a simple way for people of all ages and abilities to help support the UK’s charities and we hope that as many of you as possible will want to take part. The campaign launches on Sunday 26 April – which should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon (the world’s biggest one-day fundraising event) – and will last for a week.

 

Whatever your age or ability, you can take part. The only requirement is that you take on an activity and keep to the Government guidelines on exercise, social distancing and staying local. It can be a sponsored activity or a donation… £2.60… £26… whatever is affordable – it all adds up!

 

We’re sure you’ll come up with some great ideas yourself but if you’re looking for some inspiration, here’s just a few suggested activities:

  • 26 press-ups

  • 26 minutes walking around the garden

  • Hop on each leg 26 times

  • Throw and catch a ball 26 times

  • Complete 26 shoulder shrugs

  • Run 2.6 miles or kilometres indoors, outdoors or on the spot

  • 26 sofa tricep dips

  • Juggle for 26 minutes

  • Cycle for 2.6 miles or kilometres

  • Put on some music and dance for 26 minutes

  • Run up and down your front path 26 times

  • 26 cartwheels

  • Take your dog for a 26-minute walk

  • Walk up and down your stairs 26 times

  • Jump 26 times on the trampoline

  • Get 26 friends together for an online workout for 26 minutes

Taking on a solo 26 miles

James Whistler is a Corporate Associate at law firm Michelmores, who we’re delighted to have as a charity partner this year. James was due to run the London Marathon for us and decided to complete his own solo marathon along the River Thames instead. He says: “Starting at sunrise at Hampton Court and running down to Ripley and back, I was fortunate to have a lovely, quiet spring morning. Luckily the legs held out and back in time for a big breakfast! I’m very proud to have raised almost £1,200 and look forward to continuing to support the charity throughout this year.”

You don’t have to run a marathon to take part in the 2.6 Challenge but whatever you do decide to do, we’d love to hear how you get on!
