Fundraising through marathons, runs and challenges

Thank you so much for taking on a challenge to support the work of the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust. We hope these simple guidelines will help your fundraising run smoothly.

What CWMT can provide:

  •   CWMT running t-shirt or vest with your name and the Trust logo

  •   CWMT stickers (can be used on bicycles, helmets etc)

  •   CWMT logo in electronic version

  •   CWMT leaflet about our work – hard copies or electronic version

  •   Details of your event on CWMT website

  •   Link to your fundraising page on CWMT website and Facebook page

The most secure and effective way of raising money for this type of event is by setting up a fundraising page via Just Giving
or Virgin Money Giving (the Trust is registered with both organisations). Monies raised are paid directly to the charity, together with the relevant Gift Aid.

Employers – some organisations will provide match funding whereby they match some or all of the funds you raise.

Promoting your challenge

Promoting your challenge is key to maximising your fundraising efforts.  First you need to decide who you want to tell, what you want to tell them, and how. Here are a few easy rules:

  • Be short, compelling and to the point

  • Say what you are doing, how much you would like to raise

  • Tell them that you are supporting CWMT and why

  • No two audiences are the same – think about how best to talk to them

  • Don't forget to tell us what you're doing as we can help promote your challenge on our social media pages

News travels faster on the net. If you have set up an online fundraising page you can reach as many people as you like. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Put the link to your fundraising page at the bottom of your personal and work emails (check with your employer that they are happy about the latter).

  • If you have a page on a social networking site add your link and ask your friends to support you.

  • Make use of other websites, such as your work intranet, your friends’ or clubs’ pages. Ask them to write about you and promote your fundraising page.

  • If you have your own website or blog, update people about your training and fundraising efforts. You could even post a film of your training on YouTube.

Thank you so much for your support.
