Wellbeing Challenge 2018 – winners announced

18 Jul 2018

Eleven schools and youth organisations have each won a whole library of books on mental wellbeing in the CWMT Wellbeing Challenge. They are:

Lakeside Primary School

Terrace Road Primary School

Mary Hare School

Hafod Primary School

Sarum Academy

Coombe Boy's School

Radyr Primary School

Knutsford Academy

Holyport College

Cwm Ifor Primary School

Oakleigh House

The aim of the Challenge was to encourage children and young people to think about their mental health and was based on the NHS ‘Five steps to mental wellbeing’:

  • Be active

  • Give to others

  • Be mindful

  • Connect

  • Keep learning

To take part in the Challenge schools were asked to think up an activity to take part in with the children, that related to each of the ‘five steps’ and post photographic evidence on social media.

Students and staff came up with an extraordinary range of ideas like sharing compliment cards, visiting local care homes, writing letters to those who might be lonely, making wellbeing boxes, having mini yoga sessions and raising awareness of mental health by creating information boards and posters.

Teresa Day, Schools and Families Director, said “We were overwhelmed by the incredible response we’ve had from schools and youth settings who took part in the Challenge so enthusiastically. They’ve provided us with an amazing bank of ideas for good practice in mental wellbeing, which we can share. We are delighted that so many schools will benefit from free mental health books which teachers and youth workers can use to support young people in understanding and expressing their feelings.”

Runners-up in the challenge each won a mental health book.
